Pronunciation in Conversation

The purpose of this class is to build on the skills introduced in “Pronunciation and Accent Training” by giving more activities for application and practice with feedback.  Students will review key concepts in pronunciation and will conduct weekly recordings of activities for which they will be evaluated by the teacher and self-evaluate as well.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS?
Non-native English speakers who have taken “Pronunciation and Accent Training” and are still interested in more practice and application to improve their pronunciation of American English.  They should be at an intermediate to advanced level of English.

In this class you will learn:
  • To build on concepts from the prerequisite course, Pronunciation and Accent Training, to improve comprehensibility and fluency.
  • To engage in opportunities for communication and receive helpful feedback on targeted aspects of pronunciation.
  • To develop a method for self-analysis and improvement of pronunciation through the use of video and audio recording.
  • To refine verbal skills in a variety of communicative contexts--which may include structured and spontaneous conversation, presentations, debates, interviews, and role-play activities.
  • To identify and improve areas of pronunciation (relative to the individual) that hinder or distract from the purpose and content of communication.
