ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The UAB Dual Career Assistance program (DCA) offers support and resources to help spouses and partners, of newly recruited UAB faculty and senior-level administrators to explore employment options in the Birmingham community.
Whether you have already begun looking for work or are just beginning your search, this program will help you take the next step. We are not a job search firm or recruiters. However, this program can provide you with useful information and job search skills that can help you in the process of making a successful job transition.
In addition, DCA offers information on relocation services to assist with the stresses of moving to a new city. With the help of a program staff member, it will be determined which of the components of the service will be most beneficial to the spouse/partner.

Eligibility

• A spouse/partner of a faculty candidate or senior-level administrator candidate who is being recruited into a full-time regular status position at UAB.
  
• A spouse/partner of a current full-time regular status faculty member or senior-level administrator who has been recently hired (relocation has occurred within the last two years).

Services

Pre-Relocation Decision:

• Introduction meetings with candidate and spouse/partner to describe the career assistance services
  
• Overview of the local job market and new community
  
• Basic research and information on specific careers and companies
  
• Introductions within the community to establish relationships and resources

Career Assistance Services:

• One-on-One Job Search Assistance
  
• Résumé and Correspondence
  
• Employer Information and Contact Development

Career Enhancement Services:
In cases where spouse/partners are not interested or available to work in traditional corporate career roles, we help them maintain career connections:

• General information on colleges and universities in new location
  
• Information on academic programs specific to areas of interest
  
• Scheduling meetings with key department representatives or administrators
  
• Information on community, civic and charitable organizations
  
• Introductions to community and civic leaders and organization contacts

Relocation Support Services:
Provide information/assistance with:

• Settling-In Services
