Employees to be given priority in internal gateway
The university is changing its job application process so that UAB employees seeking new job opportunities will be given priority to apply over external candidates. The change will benefit employees, the hiring departments and Human Resources.
The change means jobs that require UAB-specific skills or experience, or jobs that need to be filled with an internal promotion, will be posted first on the BrassRing internal gateway for a minimum of three calendar days. All candidates will apply through the internal gateway, found by going to http://www.hrm.uab.edu and then to the Employment home page. If there is not a sufficient pool of qualified candidates, the job also will be posted on the BrassRing external gateway on the fourth day. For a complete listing of University job vacancies, please go to the BrassRing University external gateway.
By using BrassRing for all applications, the HR staff will be able to post, review, interview and refer qualified candidates to the hiring department while also ensuring compliance with all employment regulations. Currently, this is the responsibility of the hiring departments.
Another benefit of the process change is that Human Resources will be able to capture all applications in BrassRing, the online job application technology UAB implemented in 2006. Up until now, two separate application processes have been used for internal and external candidates.
Already a standard process for other employers in Birmingham, this change will be a welcomed one for UAB employees looking for new career opportunities. The process will begin on August 1st, 2009. If you have any questions regarding this, please contact Jim Johnson at 934-7345 or jmjuabhr@uab.edu.
