The UAB Resource Center confidential employee assistance and counseling program is an employee benefit designed to provide employees and their immediate household members with resources for resolving work-related and personal problems. The Resource Center provides employee assistance, confidential counseling, community referral, supervisor consultation, crisis management and a variety of educational programs. Our service is designed to support and provide practical tools for balance in all areas of life. Licensed counselors provide confidential individual, family and relationship counseling. Our goal is to assist our clients in clarifying issues, exploring options, and finding solutions. Our service is provided as an employee benefit and is free to our clients.

The UAB Resource Center provides services for all eligible persons, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, or veteran status. If for any reason the counselors of the UAB Resource Center determine that an individual’s needs exceed the services or expertise available at the UAB Resource Center, the counselors will work with the individual to identify an appropriate referral to meet their needs.

Our Counseling and Support Staff
Our counseling staff has earned graduate degrees in counseling or marriage, family and relational therapy and are licensed as professionals in these areas by the state of Alabama. An accountant provides financial counseling. Our counselors are trained in a variety of specialized areas, including couples, family and relationship therapy, disaster response, divorce mediation, gerontology, addictions, interventions, trauma, smoking cessation and financial counseling.
The UAB Resource Center also supports the quest for health in all areas of life through a variety of stress management classes, educational programs, and support groups. Programs provided and/or sponsored by the Resource Center include: Mediation, T’ai Chi, Yoga, Beat the Pack (smoking cessation), Planning for Retirement, and a Displaced Employees Support Group.
