Registration
Training & Development requests that everyone use our online registration system to view scheduled classes, view your history, schedule classes, and/or cancel classes. However, if you or someone you know needs assistance registering for a class, you may call Mary Floyd at 205.934.3359. This is only for people who need assistance or do not have online access.
Costs of Classes
Our classes are offered only to UAB employees or to UAB affiliates’ employees. UAB employees are eligible to attend our courses at no charge. If you are employed by an affiliate of UAB, including the UAB Health System, HSF, SRI, UAB Highlands, UAB West, or the Callahan Eye Foundation, you are eligible to attend courses, if there is space available and for a fee.
Pre-Requisities for Computer Courses
Some computer courses require prerequisite attendance to lower level courses. If you feel that your experience with the software that is being taught is sufficient, please contact a member of the Technology Team for course validation.
Training and Development no longer allows pre-registration for levels of class until you meet the prerequisites. This means you'll need to wait until you complete one level of class before you will be allowed to register for the next level. As soon as you finish one class, immediately go in and register for the next level. We no longer "hold" requests.
Primary vs. Standby Seating
If the class is not full, you will be assigned a primary seat upon your prompt arrival the day of the class. However, if you are late to class and the class is full, your primary seat will be given to a person who was listed as a standby.
If the class is full, some seats are classified as standby. This means that we know that some people who have primary seats may cancel or fail to appear.
Your Notification of Registration that prints when you register, will indicate your seating status.
Notification of Registration
When you register for a class you should receive a computer-generated e-mail confirmation notice. If you do not receive an e-mail confirmation, please check your Contact Information to make sure that we have your correct e-mail address.
Reminder Notices
You will receive an e-mail reminder one or two days before class is scheduled. However, please do not depend on the reminder notice. Anything could prevent you from getting or receiving this notice - the e-mail system is down, your computer is down, you are out and forgot to check your e-mail, etc. Please put the class on your calendar the day you register.
Attendance
Because training class space is limited, it is our practice to offer seats that are available at course start time to stand-by students. Consequently, it is suggested that you arrive at least five minutes before the course begins.Please read The Cost of Not Showing Up for Class.
